Escape

Currently experiencing post music festival withdrawal. Urbanscapes weekend was one of the best weekend of 2013. A photo diary will be up real soon once I've compiled all of the photos. Today's photos were taken a few weeks back. Had an impromptu shoot with Riley (his blog link here). The photos were taken with my iPhone because the manual settings of my ancient DSLR was being difficult so here we go.

Thrifted dress, H&M biker jacket & boots, Bag from Markets.

If you want to know more about Riley's outfit, check out his blog.

Till then,
Sit me down, shut me up.

Tuesday Tunes: Tick of Time

Last week, The Kooks was essentially all I listened to, especially Tick of Time. There's something about this song that pumps me up, it's my caffeine for anytime of the day. It's expressive and fun to sing along to. You could sway your hips, bob your head or tap your foot, whatever it is, you will be moving along to this song. My friend says it reminds him of The Beatles and I think so too. Take a listen and be the judge.

Till then,
Get off this situation and feel fine.

Friday Film: La Haine

La Haine, also known as Hate, is absolutely brilliant. My mind is still reeling from it all because the ending completely blew my mind (Read: you MUST watch it till the very end. MUST). This movie is definitely a ten out of ten. On Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer, it's 100%, do you even need more convincing?

OK, maybe you do. The film revolves around three guys from the ghetto, Said, Vinz and Hubert, in a span of 24 hours. A riot broke out the night before and their friend was injured by a police officer, a gun was lost amidst the chaos. The gun is found by Vinz who threatens to kill an officer if their friend dies. The tension between the police force and the kids from the ghetto is intense. The stare downs and the fights between them are equivalent to witnessing a classmate arguing with a strict teacher, however you want to describe it, you will hold your breath.

La Haine addresses prejudice, racism, discrimination as well as ethics. There were some parts that made me recall lessons learnt from philosophy lectures. The way it was shot and presented is different as well, which is refreshing. It was released in 1995 but it is a black and white movie, do not let that deter you from watching it because it is genius.

Vinz: It's about a society on its way down. And as it falls, it keeps telling itself: "So far so good... So far so good... So far so good." It's not how you fall that matters. It's how you land.

Side note: Said sort of reminds me of Finn of Jacksgap in certain scenes. Is it just me or...?

Till then,
The world is yours.

Photo Diary: Melaka

5 iPhones. Three film cameras. One day trip to Melaka.

That sounds really dramatic, but I finally got around to scanning the photos we took in Melaka. These are from my camera, the others are with their respective owners. Remembering this day in particular will always put a smile on my face for it was filled with spontaneity. Roaming around the town with food in mind, we took a number of random shots as we explored the town at our own pace. It was a fantastic day because of the incredible laid back company. Definitely one of the highlights of 2013.
