Tuesday Tunes: The Strokes

The Strokes is high up on the list of my all time favourite bands. Their songs just get to me, you know how the way you listen to a song for the first time and you just know that you're in love with it before it even hits the 1 minute mark. That's how it's like for most of their songs. I can't explain it, but I think Daniel Handler's quote can: "Either you have the feeling or you don't." I guess that's what it's like for most things. You either like it or you don't. 

Back to The Strokes, I narrowed down my top 10, it was tough, but I did it. I created the playlist with a person who has never heard of The Strokes in mind. There are upbeat songs as well as melancholic ones. Give them a listen, you never know, you just might have the feeling.

Must Watch: Nylon x Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung is definitely an icon of our generation. She has an impeccable sense of style with the brains to boot. She has ventured into so many fields, i.e. music (DJ), fashion (style icon/model) and literature (author), and emerged successful from all of them. Her personality is radiant with a splash of effortless cool. I can't wait to get my hands on her new book, It. If you need anymore reason to love her, watch the video below.

Grrls

If you are planning to splurge your money all in one place, Markets should be it. The variety of clothes that are hard to come by in malls, can be found there. Yesterday, I had the pleasure to go on a proper shopping spree with Aly, Amanda and Marsya. I like that we see eye to eye on most things and could offer feedback on different pieces. Needless to say, I had a lovely time with a bunch of rad grrrls.

All of us managed to score some really good deals. Vintage blouses for RM20, vintage jackets for RM30, Hawaiian shirts for RM30, accessories for under RM20 etc etc. We went home with lighter wallets but with that buzz you can only get from owning things you really love.

Girls Night Out

Grainy pictures due to hotel interior lighting and phone snapshots are generally sucky when taken indoors without proper sunlight. 

Anyways, had a great night out with Marini after a tense week filled with tests, quizzes and assignments. Popped over to TTDI for dinner at Pickle & Fig then a quick whip decision led us to a plateful of Hard Rock Cafe's nachos. KL is simply beautiful at night. There's something magical about the city as much as I hate driving there what with the crazy lanes.

Tomorrow shall be a day of shopping as Markets is back in Jaya One. But alas, money woes.

2/6 Halcyon

Hat, skirt & boots from H&M, Topshop crop top, Earrings from Morocco, Ring from Diva.  

I absolutely adore the neckline of this crop top as it bares the rest of your shoulder instead of your collarbone. It is snug, so pairing it with this flared skirt balances out the silhouette. 

Tasha and I were passing through the parking lot when we came across this small area with rows of shutters. The way it is faded and worn out intrigued us, so we decided to shot one of the looks there. It reminds me of old country homes with nothing around but miles of meadows into the horizon. Rustic and idyllic. (I'm in desperate need of a getaway. 9 more days to go.)

Makeup: Berry Lips

Hi there, it's Marini here, a friend of the lovely blog owner Adrienne. 

So, basically, she's asked me to offer a few tips in the makeup department and although I'm no pro, I do love love love makeup and so I gladly agreed! It took me awhile as I had originally planned a tutorial video and that didn't go so well, so now I've decided I'll be posting an idea or a look I've possibly seen somewhere and try to recreate it if possible.

It's probably nothing too complicated, just your everyday looks or for night outs and the occasional festival makeup ideas. To sum it all up, it'll be a little bit of everything!

Moving on, shall we? 

I've been obsessing over dark lips lately and actually, I wasn't quite sure if I'd name this blog post Dark Lips or Berry Lips because Dark Lips could be just about any colour, even black. So I think I'll try to split it up: berry lips and then moving on to something more of a brown-toned colour.

As of now, we'll stick to berries.

How to rock such a colour?

People get scared and shy away from bold colours because they think they probably look like some goth emo person. Well, I, for one, think it's just as pretty as a baby pink colour. Also, it doesn't have to be an outright deep berry colour. You can always opt for a softer berry shade.

You could wear it sheer (a good one would be Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Plum) or stained for a daytime look or full-blown for the night time. Anything that you feel comfortable with. Makeup is supposed to make you feel good and confident about yourself, not self-conscious.

The key here for those with rather thin lips is to apply it slightly out of your natural lip line. Don't go too crazy unless you want to look like The Joker but just enough to see that your pout looks full as dark colours tend to make your lips look smaller.

If you're pretty unsure of it, you can apply a lighter colour in the center of your lips to fake a fuller pout. Make sure to blend it all together!

Also, berry pouts look good with flawless satin matte skin and contour under the cheekbones. It isn't necessary for blush but if you can't go on without applying any, a nude or warm pink-peach blush would look just as great when paired with. Eyeliner, lots of lashes and you're good to go!

Tuesday Tunes: The Brits Are Playing At My House

One of the best mashups I've heard in awhile. Not only does all 3 songs blend perfectly together, it is a nice touch to The Beatle's Get Back. I like that it's fast and upbeat. Great for blasting in the morning when you're getting ready or rushing to class. By the second time you listen to this, you'll be able to sing along at the top of your lungs.
