Photo Diary: Urbanscapes

The music, company and overall chill vibe made Urbanscapes one of the best weekends I've had in 2013. It may seem like every photo diary is one of the best whatever I had last year, but in all honesty, it really is. Lying on the grass, dancing nonstop during Franz Ferdinand and listening to really good new bands play live can amount to a great weekend. Although I'm still bitter that Two Door Cinema Club cancelled last minute, but getting Kyoto Protocol's album made up for it.

Till then,
Long live music festivals!

Tuesday Tunes: Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club

I don't really want to stop the show
But I thought that you might like to know
That the singer's going to sing a song
And he wants you all to sing along
So let me introduce to you
The one and only Billy Shears
And Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Sometimes I dream of being a hippie in the 60s with my hair way below my waist woven with flowers. The idea of wanting peace and fighting for something I believe strongly in is a nice thought but ultimately, I wouldn't trade my place in the world now for any other.

I get by with a little help from my friends,
I get high with a little help from my friends,
Going to try with a little help from my friends.
What do I do when my love is away?
(Does it worry you to be alone?)
How do I feel by the end of the day?
(Are you sad because you're on your own?)
No, I get by with a little help from my friends.
Do you need anybody,
I need somebody to love.

With A Little Help From My Friends is one of my favourite Beatles' song, probably because I feel for it. Most of the time I can't fully describe how I feel about certain songs and this is one of those moments. Let's just say it puts a smile on my face and my heart swells with happiness. That should suffice, no?

Till then,
Would you believe in a love at first sight?
Yes, I'm certain that it happens all the time.

Walk The Walk

2014 started off brilliantly. Spent New Year's Eve with half of my favourite people, and a photo diary should be up soon right after I send the rolls of film to the shop. For now, here are some snazzy iPhone snapshots:

1/1/2014: Met up with my high school mates, with 2 M.I.A, but we ate at The Bee and it felt like time kept on moving and so have we yet we can still relate. It's nice to keep in touch with your friends and not have any of that awkward we-haven't-seen-each-other-in-forever-and-we're-in-totally-different-phases-of-our-lives-now-so-bye fiasco going on. I have food pictures thanks to XinJun.

2/1/14: Mom bursts into my room and exclaims "I'm giving you a makeover!" Fast forward 8 hours and bam, I now have shoulder length curly hair with pink highlights. Thanks mom.

5/1/14: Spent time with family for days and met up with my pseudo family in Publika for a fusion Korean meal. Also, we pretty much hogged the Infinity art installation by Nacho Ruiz.

Hand me down red shirt, Forever 21 Marvel muscle tank & jeans, Bag from Markets,
Socks from Japan, Nike trainers, Bazarro watch.

This post is a semi personal update since I've been AWOL. Being on break feels phenomenal and I'm taking full advantage of that by journaling, writing, reading, watching Friends back to back and hanging out with my friends. We have been plotting and scheming some new projects that we are getting way too excited about, hopefully it all turns out well and you shall see them here. (I'll probably post them anyways. We'll see.) A Japan/Taiwan photo diary will be heading your way soon enough.

Till then,
Lots of love.

Friday Film: Trio

This week has been a good week for me movie-wise. On the flight back from Taipei, I managed to catch We're The Millers. I've heard a lot of good things about this movie, how it's downright hilarious and worth watching in theatres, but I was pretty disappointed with it. It's your run of the mill American movie with crappy things happening to them yet they are able to escape all of it unhurt. It made me laugh somewhat, chuckle more like it, but it was not worth the hype in my opinion. Overall, it was a good movie to catch on a flight where you have time to kill but not something I would actually pay to watch.

After crashing for 5 hours due to the early flight, I had time to recuperate, so I decided to watch Fruitvale Station. I saw it on the list of movies on the flight and remembered how I had goosebumps watching the trailer a few months back, so I decided to watch it at home in the comfort of my bed. Oh boy was that one of best decisions I have ever made. Throughout the movie, you know things will not end well, so Dread is constantly nagging at you in the back of your mind as you learn to love and relate with Oscar Grant played by Michael B. Jordan. Needless to say, I ended up crying my eyes out at the end. This is a movie on racism and how the police aren't always the good guys.

On the same night, I was browsing through The Film Fatale's Best of 2013 list and came across Blackfish. It's an eyeopening documentary on killer whales held in captivity in SeaWorld. Former SeaWorld trainers talk about their experiences and how issues have been covered up from the public. There are so many things that happen behind the scenes and are covered up so well that we are ignorant to them all, this documentary opens your eyes to these issues. Prepare some tissues, although they will never fully help.

Here we face extremities, We're The Millers is lighthearted and a good watch for dull afternoons whereas Fruitvale Station and Blackfish are hard hitting movies that require emotional strength as well as boxes of tissues. So go ahead, pick your poison.

Till then,
Happy New Year.
